Social Media Optimisation

In spring 2009 we outlined a social media optimisation (SMO) strategy and best practices to make our client’s digital presence even more social media friendly. After the theory was set out, the best practices were piloted and integrated.

What did we do?

The first step was to perform a full audit, reviewing SMO implementation on our client’s digital presence, to establish how SMO could be improved, and to create internal awareness of the importance of optimisation. During our research we also took into account online strategy, business goals, social media and word of mouth strategy, and user interface design.

After we’d assessed the various sites and the current SMO situation, we drew up a list of recommendations, as well as an overall SMO strategy, and presented them to our client.

Subsequently, we put together a package of SMO best practices and guidelines for internal use within the client’s organization.

The results

As a result of this project, there has been an increased understanding of the importance of social media and how to approach SMO more effectively. Our client has since asked us to work on implementing the SMO strategy we recommended on several of their main sites.
