How it all started
This project was not your usual “client sends a brief to the agency, agency comes back with some ideas” type of situation—it grew organically after several discussions between Luxus and entrepreneurs Clarissa Nicosia and Carolyn Gerin. Their goal was to create a new green movement focused on responsible, sustainable retail while establishing a presence in the mobile tech space. There were no case studies to follow during the initial stages of the project, so ideas were simply jotted down on a cocktail napkin. Slowly, things started to take shape. Pretty soon, the idea of getting funding from Adobe and Nokia’s Open Screen Project led everyone in the same direction.
What we did
Luxus created the web platform first: a custom WordPress-based site that aggregates the most creative, under the radar, green, handmade, and sustainable designers and retailers. Next, the mobile app had to be created from scratch to run on Symbianˆ3 devices such as the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, and Nokia C7. The technology of choice for this proved to be Adobe Flash Lite 4.0 in Web Runtime, with all content pulled from the greenglamgo.com web server. All the content—for both web and mobile—was managed through a single user interface, making any updates made on the backend (like new items or brands) reflect instantly in the mobile app or on the website.
The results
The app was submitted to the Ovi Store in early February 2011 and received approval for publication shortly after. In a matter of days—and thanks to an expertly orchestrated PR operation by Carolyn and Clarissa—the app received great coverage and was soon featured on the Ovi Daily App blog.
